Icelandic Flake Sea Salt
Icelandic Flake Sea Salt, 1 lb (454 g)
Icelandic Flake Salt is a delicious artisan salt produced with 100% geothermal energy. This is the flake salt of choice for consumers looking for an excellent salt made in an environmentally sustainable way.
Icelandic Flake Salt is a crunchy, mineral-fresh sea salt, produced using only energy from geothermal hot springs in northwest Iceland. The handmade, pyramid-like crystal salt flakes contain the flavor and taste of the Nordic region from which the raw materials come. Reykjanes, the source of the raw materials, has some of the cleanest seawater imaginable.
This Flake Salt contains 3 times more magnesium and 2 times more potassium than Celtic salt.*
Our Icelandic Flake Salt making method is based on a centuries-old method practiced in Reykjanes.
To create Icelandic Flake Salt, hot geyser water of 206 °F (93 °C) from the hot springs of Reykjanes is used during the pre-heating, boiling, and drying processes of the salt. Geothermal energy is the sole energy source used, which means we leave a zero-carbon footprint on the environment with absolutely zero CO2 and CH4 emissions created.
Sea water is pumped to open pans where it is pre-heated until it becomes a strong brine with a salinity level of 17-20%. The brine is then boiled until white crystals appear on the surface, which then slowly fall to the bottom of the pan.
The pan is drawn and any remaining liquid is drained. The salt is then dried and put into packages.
Icelandic Flake Sea Salt is one of the few entirely sustainable flaky sea salts in the world and contains many minerals necessary for the human body.*
